Resizing PNG images: what to know
PNG is the lossless standard for graphics, logos, screenshots, and any image that needs transparency. Unlike JPEG, every pixel is stored exactly — no compression artefacts. This makes PNG the right choice for UI screenshots, icons, diagrams, and product images with transparent backgrounds.
The trade-off is file size: PNG files for photos are much larger than JPEG at equivalent quality. For photographs, consider switching to JPG or WebP output unless you specifically need lossless quality.
Resizing PNGs with transparency
Transparent PNGs (those with a transparent background, cutout objects, or semi-transparent shadows) resize cleanly in this tool. The alpha channel is preserved at the new dimensions. This is important for logos, product cutouts, and UI elements that need to sit on different backgrounds.
If you're outputting to JPG (which doesn't support transparency), transparent areas are replaced with white. Switch the output format to PNG or WebP to preserve transparency.
